Both of these clubs are in trouble at the moment in the Premier League. Weirdly, Watford are 3 points and 2 places better off than the teesiders but they look to be in more trouble. Anybody that has seen Walter Mazzarri on the touchline in recent games will know what I mean when I say this, he looks heartbroken at what he has had to witness over the past month or so, in a way that only a passionate Italian gentleman could. They look awful at the minute and that is being manifested in the fact that they have lost 4 of their last 5 games. It’s worrying times to be a Watford fan at the moment, could Mazzarri be under pressure of losing his job? Middlesbrough don’t look amazing themselves at the moment either but there is less pressure on them as a newly promoted side and I feel that they’re only a good striker away from being able to win more games. They look competitive defensively but have struggled to put the ball in the back of the net this season. In terms of this game, I think Boro can win, but only because of how awful Watford have been recently.
Alvaro Negredo to Score First
When Middlesbrough signed Negredo in the summer I thought he would be a brilliant signing but for some reason he hasn’t been able to replicate his form for Manchester City and Sevilla since signing for Boro. He has started chipping in with more goals recently after a very long drought with 3 in his last 5 games but he needs to start scoring more because Boro are really short in that area of the pitch. I think both teams are blunt in attack at the moment but the player that looks the most like being able to score is this man and that’s why my money is going on him.
Under 2.5 Goals
Both of these teams are actually quite good defensively, they just can’t buy a goal at the moment. They both did alright in the FA Cup last weekend but they need to transfer that into the Premier League. Middlesbrough have been one of the best defensive teams in the league this season but one of the worst attacking and Watford are slowly getting mediocre at both! I don’t think we will see many goals in this game at all, it will be very cagey.
Head to Head
Middlesbrough haven’t beaten Watford in their last 6 attempts (L4 D2).
